U srijedu je eksplodirala kemijska tvornica u meksičkoj državi Veracruz u 15.15 sati po lokalnom vremenu. Tri radnika su poginula, 136 je ozlijeđeno, a još stotine ljudi su evakuirane.
Postrojenje koje je eksplodiralo pripada meksičkoj državnoj naftnoj kompaniji Pemexu. Guverner Javier Duarte kazao je kako se eksplozija osjetila u krugu od 10 kilometara, javlja Reuters. Uzrok eksplozije još nije poznat.
Vatrogasci su do večeri ugasili požar, ali vlasti su upozorile stanovnike da zbog toksičnih para i dima ne izlaze iz domova. Predstavnici Pemexa tvrde da je sve pod kontrolom te da ne postoj opasnost za građane.
Postrojenjem koje je eksplodiralo upravljala je sestrinska kompanija Pemexa - Mexichem koja proizvodi opasne kemikalije koje su sastavni dio PVC cijevi.
